The Flight of Icarus
Quoted from wikipedia "Icarus (Latin, Greek – Íkaros, Etruscan – Vicare) was the son of the artificer Daedalus. Icarus was famous for his death by falling into the Icarian Sea near Icaria, the island southwest of Samos that still bears his name,[1] when he flew too close to the sun, melting the wax holding his artificial wings together." By far my best piece this semester. The center ring is a 14 gauge reticulated silver disk with copper and sterling silver detail image of Icarus. The stone is a citrine, and is meant to represent the sun. The disk spins at a 45 degree axis and is perfectly balanced to stay upright (a fluke I must admit) The main ring is made of sterling silver. I should have made the outer band a thicker metal, but money and materials was a factor. I am submitting this piece to Lark's 500 pendants book, so lets keep our fingers crossed that it gets in!
